Furry 5K rocks our socks off!!

Furry 5K was PAWsome!!

Olivia and I could only park as close as 12 blocks away from Seward Park on Sunday, June 11th. The streets leading into the park were thick with dogs and owners of all varieties as we made our way down to the shores of Lake Washington. Of course the first furry friends we noticed were Great Danes! We met 4 before we even got to the registration table!

I have never been to a Furry 5K event, but I have to say, the turnout was amazing!!
There had to have been thousands of people there!!! The booths were great… I, of course, went to visit Brandie at CityDog, and I also had the privilege to meet Sue of “Etta Says!”– I hear these treats are the BEST and Olivia validated the rumors
I wish I had more time to poke around. We also introduced Olivia and “Stella”– The Dane I wrote about in the Spring “Dane Outreach” article. Stella was rescued as a pup, and although she is a very sweet girl, she had a LOT to say to miss Olivia! :)

We also met a couple other special pooches…

Congrats to the Seattle Animal Shelter, I think this event was a great, great success!!!

Meet Bean.

Meet Bean.
Bean was both polite and delightful! Although it was clear that she REALLY wanted to take a run in the big beautiful grassy field outside (who wouldn’t!?) Bean was a wonderful subject! Eager to be near me and scarf cookies.

Her paperwork says she is a Husky mix, but we are pretty sure she is part Suluki. She sure photographs like she has a bit of yellow lab in there some where too! What we do know is that she can sit, stay, lay down and “crawl”. It seems that Bean was brought to the Humane Society for nipping when people got too near to her food… I saw no signs of aggression when I was working with her and treats. Perhaps it depends on the setting. Bean is now an enrollee in K9 College and she has all the makings of a wonderful pet but it is recommended that she not go to a family with children under 6 years old.

Meet Blackberry.

Meet Blackberry.{UPDATE: Blackberry, whom I like to refer to as the “Pirate Cat”- Was adopted on Thursday (6/7) and will have a very loving home from now on!}

This little fella is a handful of personality. At 10 or so years old, he has lost nearly all of his teeth. This doesn’t keep him from showin off his toothy grin or from eating dry food (we hear he sucks on it)

Blackberry has wonderful coloring and very soft tabby fur. His eyes are a crystal-clear green and he seems to enjoy being held. This kitty is fearless when it comes to the canine factor… Olivia the Great Dane was right outside the studio door for most of this shoot, and Blackberry wanted nothing more then to meet her!

This wonderful boy enjoys catnip as much as the next guy, and is looking for a place to live out his days, spoiled and happy. He’s very sweet and will make an entertaining companion.
